Hey, what’s up, it’s me, the author crawling out of her grave.
So there’s this thing I hate, right? Where in media, folks who are the victims of abuse are changed by said abuse, and there’s always someone who is like “oh now YOU have become the monster.” In real life, what you get are folks standing up for themselves after a lifetime of not being able to and having to wrestle their own “…am I a monster?” thoughts as well as the thoughts of external observers.
Anyway. Juliana was about to say something, wasn’t she?

Once, I was in a situation very much like Fawn’s, and I was taken in by someone very much like MimÃ. This page and the next two, if we are honest, are in large part a wish fulfillment moment. I will never be able to yell like this at the woman who exploited me when I was vulnerable, or at the other women who have informed MimÃ’s character and are, y’know, Nice and Kind and Definitely Not Racist.
But Fawn can. And they will.
